				<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p style="text-align: justify;">A cidade de São Carlos foi destaque no XXI Simpósio Brasileiro de Eletroquímica e Eletroanalítica (SIBEE), realizado entre os dias 17 e 21 de abril na cidade de Natal (RN).</p>
<p>Dois pesquisadores &#8211; um da Universidade Federal de São Carlos (UFSCar) e outro da Universidade de São Paulo (USP)  foram homenageados no evento: Orlando Fatibello Filho, do Departamento de Química da UFSCar, e Artur de Jesus Motheo, docente do Instituto de Química de São Carlos (IQSC-USP). Os homenageados são escolhidos por uma comissão composta por membros do comitê científico do evento e por homenageados em edições anteriores do SIBEE, a partir de critérios que abrangem a carreira do pesquisador, sua produção científica, sua contribuição na formação de estudantes, além da participação na comunidade de Eletroquímica e Química Eletroanalítica.</p>

<p style="text-align: justify;"><strong>ORLANDO FATIBELLO FILHO</strong></p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">O interesse pela Química em Fatibello surgiu quando ele conseguiu seu primeiro emprego como office boy e arquivista na Sociedade Paulista de Indústrias Químicas, a SAPIQ, uma indústria química de médio porte que dominava o mercado de óleos vegetais de mamona, linhaça e algodão desidratados, naftanatos de cobalto, chumbo e zinco e de resinas, usados como secantes em diversas tintas. &#8220;Foi na SAPIQ que minha vocação foi despertada. Já o meu interesse pela Química Analítica surgiu com as aulas de Química Analítica Qualitativa, aqui no DQ da UFSCar, ministradas pela professora Elizabeth de Mattos Moraes e, em Eletroanalítica, lendo os artigos do professor Eduardo Neves, do Instituto de Química da USP de São Paulo&#8221;, relembra o homenageado.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">Fatibello ingressou na UFSCar em 1976 como Professor Auxiliar e, atualmente, é Professor Titular. Ao longo desse período, atuou na área de Química Analítica com ênfase em eletroanalítica, bioanalítica, métodos ópticos de análise no UV-Vis, quimiluminescência, principalmente nos seguintes temas: análise por injeção em fluxo com detecção eletroquímica, espectrofotométrica no UV-Vis, turbidimétrica e por quimiluminescência, espectrofotometria com longo caminho óptico, biossensores a base de extratos e tecidos vegetais, eletrodos de pasta de carbono modificados, eletrodos modificados com filmes poliméricos contendo nanotubos de carbono, óxido de grafeno reduzido, negro de fumo (carbono black) e/ou nanopartículas metálicas (platina, ouro, óxido de níquel, dentre outras), eletrodo de diamante dopado com boro, Química Analítica Verde e ensino de Química (desenvolvimento de experimentos de baixo custo com material do dia a dia). &#8220;Já orientei 36 estudantes de mestrado e 31 de doutorado, sendo que mais de duas dúzias deles são hoje professores em diversas universidades federais, incluindo a nossa, universidades estaduais e institutos de pesquisa&#8221;, contabiliza Fatibello.</p>
<p><strong>ARTUR DE JESUS MOTHEO</strong></p>
<p>Motheo é formando da primeira turma do curso de Bacharelado em Química do antigo Instituto de Física e Química de São Carlos (IFQSC/USP). Sua escolha por Eletroquímica ocorreu ainda durante sua graduação, quando desenvolveu um projeto de iniciação científica sob a orientação do professor Luis Alberto Avaca. Iniciou seus estudos de pós-graduação na área de Físico-Química, especialidade em Eletroquímica, no ano de 1977, sob a orientação do professor Ernesto Rafael González e, neste mesmo ano, foi contratado no IFQSC/USP como Professor Assistente.</p>
<p>Sobre suas principais contribuições na área, o professor afirma  que seu trabalho começa na formação de alunos e complementa que &#8220;não só de mestres e doutores, mas também de alunos de graduação&#8221;. Ele se orgulha de ser professor de Laboratório de Química Geral para alunos do primeiro ano do Bacharelado no IQSC e considera essa oportunidade de receber os calouros como uma renovação. Sobre seus alunos de mestrado e doutorado, afirma que estão espalhados pelo País e que &#8220;isso é sempre uma felicidade&#8221;. Destaca também que, graças ao intercâmbio acadêmico, recebe muitos estrangeiros, e que &#8220;os primeiros paquistaneses de São Carlos vieram para o meu laboratório&#8221;, além dos alunos da Inglaterra, de Moçambique, Chile, Peru, Colômbia e Marrocos, &#8220;o que dá uma magnitude diferente para as pesquisas e para o nosso papel&#8221;.</p>
<p>Sobre as aplicações da Eletroquímica, Motheo comenta que &#8220;a pesquisa em Eletroquímica é interdisciplinar e são muitas as possibilidades de aplicação, desde a área de saúde, meio ambiente, saneamento básico, sustentabilidade, dentre outras&#8221;, conclui.</p>
